INTRODUCTION

Creative Cycle partnered with Meraki Communication Group to design the Black Girls Code campaign for a Nike-powered Hackathon.

The purpose was to encourage and empower Black girls to participate in this event, where they would leverage technology to address issues bridging the worlds of sports and activism.

01.

Challenge

As campaign designers, our challenge was to create a compelling visual atmosphere that instills a sense of support and encouragement, motivating girls to partake in Hackathon 2022. Furthermore, our design needed to convey a strong competitive spirit that would inspire their participation. The graphics we were responsible for encompassed social media content, email communications, and merchandise.

Solution

The first step was conceptualizing the effective utilization of the visual elements for the Hackathon. Our approach focused on high contrast to create a strong visual impact. Additionally, we designed a unique lockup for the campaign slogan, emphasizing the word “hack” and giving it a glitched and vibrant appearance. Furthermore, we incorporated coded-style typography for other textual elements.

We chose a highly contrasted scheme color palette, combining black with vivid fuchsia and subtle blue accents.

Considering Black Girls Code’s pioneering role in the worldwide push for equal representation in the tech sector, Creative Cycle and Meraki needed to craft a compelling campaign. Our primary goal was to captivate young girls between the ages of 7 and 17, motivating them to embrace innovation and leadership.
We wanted to create graphics that conveyed technolgy, empwerment, and a touch of futuristic elements.
